Our RI President, Wilf Wilkinson, adopted the motto of "Rotary Shares" for his 2007-8 administration.  We feel President Wilf nailed it.  In fact, we are in anticipation that this year's motto will be perpetuated - not to replace "Service above Self", but to complement our long-standing  international motto.

An outstanding example of "Rotary Shares" can be seen in the effort made by the club for our Stanwood/Camano Island Rotary Food Drive.  For the third year, Stanwood Rotarians collected food for the Local Food Bank.  This year, though the efforts of many and with the generosity of the citizens of the community, we accomplished the greatest success so far in our Food Drive Program.

A small army descended upon the two major grocery stores in the community.  With the excellent planning and maneuvering by General Mike Heckendorf and with the willing work of Major Jim Jonson who saw to it that each time slot for the two days before Thanksgiving were filled, the program excelled.  Communications Lieutenant Patty Bender delivered necessary leaflets and coupons to the sites.  Supply Seargents Jerry Van Vliet; Greg Gilday and Kristy Stephenson, picked up the collected food twice each day, weighed the bounty, and delivered the food to the Stanwood Food Bank.  There were also three Special Reserve Officers: Marta Solaro Carpintero; Lucas Jacks and Jordan Stephenson.

This success could not have happened without the 23 Privates and 3 Special Reserves who stood at the doors of QFC and Haggen's Foods in chilly Fall temperatures inviting customers to donate food they purchased.  An early tally indicated that more than 3500 pounds of food was collected in the two days of our Food Drive.  That calculates to an average of 134.6 pounds per Private and Reserve Officer!!

And thats not all!!!  We don't have a final total, but early indications are that we also collected about $2000 for the Food Bank!!  That averages $76.92 taken in by each member of our special Forces.

What an Army!!!  Thank you one and all.
