Making a Global Impact: Support for El Florido School
Our Rotary club is proud to support the dedicated students and teachers at a school in El Florido, Honduras. Through our efforts, we're helping to provide essential resources and improve learning environments, opening doors to brighter futures for these young learners. We recently received the most heartwarming collection of hand-drawn thank you cards from the children themselves, a beautiful reminder of the direct impact of our "Service Above Self" and the global connections we forge through Rotary. Their gratitude truly brightens our day!
Revving Up for a Polio-Free World: Miss Vicky's Four-Fold Impact!
A gleaming beacon of hope on four wheels, "Miss Vicky," the beloved classic car, is once again touring Rotary clubs, not just turning heads but also driving an extraordinary campaign to eradicate polio from the face of the Earth. And this year, her mission carries an unprecedented punch: every dollar donated to PolioPlus through Miss Vicky's visits will be matched three times over, making your impact four times as great!
Miss Vicky, is more than just polished chrome and gleaming fenders. She's a symbol of Rotary's enduring commitment to global health. Owned and lovingly maintained by a dedicated Rotarian, Miss Vicky travels from club to club, serving as a unique and charming fundraising magnet for one of the world's most ambitious public health initiatives.
For nearly four decades, Rotary International has been at the forefront of the global effort to eradicate polio. Through its PolioPlus program, Rotary members worldwide have contributed over $2.7 billion and countless volunteer hours, helping to vaccinate more than 3 billion children. This monumental effort has reduced polio cases by 99.9% since 1988, bringing the world to the cusp of an unimaginable victory. Only a handful of cases remain in just two endemic countries.
But eradicating the last few cases is often the hardest part, requiring sustained vigilance, ongoing vaccination campaigns, and robust surveillance. This is where Miss Vicky's current tour becomes critically important.
The Board conducted a special session following the unexpected resignation of RI President-elect Mário César Martins de Camargo on 8 June. Based on RI code and policies, the Board selected the new president-elect from a pool of candidates who were considered by the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International in August 2023.
