MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

July 11, 2007

 

MEETING CALLED TO ORDER at 11:07 a.m.

 

Members in Attendance:  JoAnn and Dave Lipscomb, Jack Meyers, Jon Baker, Jim Jonson, Greg Gilday, Kurt Malizio, Nancy Nelson, Jerry VanVliet, Kristy Stephensen, Gary Platt, Stephen Morach, Jack Myles, Nancy Voelckers

 

REVIEW/APPROVE MINUTES JUNE 6, 2007 BOARD MEETING - unavailable - table until next meeting

 

SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS TO THE BOARD - given out by JoAnn and Dave

  • 2007-2008 Theme Pin - "Rotary Shares" pin, theme of 2007-2008 year
  • Four-way test magnet - each member received two, one for home and one for work

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

                ... MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE -Jerry Van Vliet

  • New members pending - Currently only one member in progress - Karla Jacks
  • Letter from John Silva read requesting a one year leave of absence from Rotary, Jerry moved, JoAnn 2nd, passed
  • Big thank you from JoAnn and Dave to all for big push this year on increasing membership
  • Jerry and membership committee will focus on new membership procedures after August meeting in Canada            

                ... THE ROTARY FOUNDATION -Steve Morach

  • Participate in Golfun - $1,000 sponsorship requested for District tournament, JoAnn moved, Kristie 2nd, passed
  • Grants seminar (July 21 - Saturday - Bellingham) - We are looking for member(s) to attend!
  • Current stats: 3rd in District for contributions per member, 32 of 38 members are official sustaining members, and every member contributed something last year!  Way to go!

  • Auction results were posted in The Herald and the Stanwood Camano News

                ... CLUB ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE - Dave Lipscomb

  • Treasurer's report - Dawn Pratt - not available - table until next meeting
  • Plaque for Mayor White - to be awarded today along with Harris Fellowship
  • Funding for Presidential Membership Meeting on Aug 10-11th - Five members going so far.
  • Motion to spend a total of $2,500.00 for the Membership Meeting, Terry moved, JoAnn 2nd passed
  • Policy regarding active political candidate programs
  • Motion to allow political candidates to present programs or talk about their cause to the club, failed
                ...  PROJECTS COMMITTEE - Jim Jonson
  • Auction wrap-up -Jack Myles
  • Auction report was handed out.  Very complimentary overall.  Venue too small, need to start looking now for larger space.  Need more people to stay and help with the clean-up.  ThankYou's are ready to go out.
  • Nancy Nelson reported raised almost twice the amount needed for Operation Warm.  Looking to either use funds for another project or carryover for next year. Motion to table for auction committee to make recommendation to board at 8/3 meeting, Jim moved, Jerry 2nd, passed
  • There are a few items that were not bought at the auction.  Discussed using these as incentives to bring new members.
  • Motion to table for auction committee to make recommendation, Terry moved, Kristie 2nd, passed
  • Auction next year - thank you to Jon Baker for stepping up to be the Auction Chair for next year!
  • Fair Parade - Kristie Stephensen
  • Help needed on Sat. Aug 4th:  Judges, Sign-in table, Hand out flags (1,200).  Also looking for portable sound system.

                                 

OTHER BIZ

  • Club assembly July 18 - please plan to attend and lead your section. - Instead of reporting at end of meeting, each committee will be asked to write a paragraph that will be given to Jack Meyers and posted in bulletin.
  • District Governor John Bosch is coming to club on August 15th - please try to attend
  • Next Board Meeting:  Planning retreat Friday, August 3 - Stanwood Senior Center - 1:00 p.m.
