We tried many methods, but the one that worked best was

1) Get the cart out and ready for the person approaching the store. After a warm smile, ask them if they'd consider helping with the food bank; or whatever you can get out of your mouth quickly and comfortably-you only have a split second. Some people are in such a hurry that we just try to get a flier in their hand, hoping they'll read it as they push their cart into the store.

2) When they return with the food, collect it in an empty cart(s) and get it ready to be picked up by John Silva's gang. See if they would like a coupon for $5 off for opening weekend of the Lights. If they have a family and want extra coupons, I don't see any problem giving them more.

3) When your two-hour shift is over, train the next people as they come on board.

4) Check the Rotary to see the list of who is on for the day. If they don't show, get on your cell phone and track them down!

5) Nancy will try to make arrangements for the last person of the day at QFC to get the fliers and coupons to the first person on the following day. Nancy will get the fliers to Haggens each day.
