THE FAMILY OF ROTARY

When tragedy strikes, we most often turn to family for love, caring and support.  Last week, there was a wonderful demonstration of our club's family spirit.  We were all shocked to hear that Shelly Greer's melanoma had metastasized to her liver.  With that news, our Rotary family sprang into action.  Nancy Nelson quickly ordered a flower arrangement that was delivered to the Greer household.  The flowers were received with gratitude.  Terry Greer called to say they had received the flowers and were most pleased and grateful.

In other ways, our Rotary family showered the Greer family with love and good wishes with dedication of many happy dollars during the meeting.  The Board had decided for the Stanwood/Camano Island Rotary to be a sponsor of Golfun, the District's Fund raising tournament.  With the $1000 sponsorship will come a Paul Harris Fellowship to be designated for anyone we choose.  Bonnie George moved that the PH Fellowship be designated for Shelly Greer.  The motion after being seconded was passed unanimously.   As any who know her, Shelly Greer embodies all of the qualities that describe Paul Harris Fellows.  We are pleased to have this opportunity to honor both Terry and Shelly.

During the coming year, we are planning to celebrate the family of Rotary in many ways through our mutual interaction; shared experiences; and sharing our enjoyment of being Rotarians.  Remember the motto suggested by RI President Wilf: "Rotary Shares".  It is our obligation and challenge to meet that seemingly simple but still challenging motto.

We send warmest personal regards to each of you,

JoAnn and Dave
